Veteran Organization Always Needs Help
You can volunteer to assist other veterans in receiving benefits they
have earned. As of today, nearly 140,000 volunteers are assisting
veterans through the Veterans Affairs (VA) system. Among those
volunteers is the group
Military Order of the Purple Heart
(MOPH) - a group that has already given on the battlefield and now
is giving back to others.
MOPH
is an organization made up entirely of veterans who have been wounded in
combat and have received the Purple Heart for their sacrifice. In
2008, nearly 700 volunteers from the group donated nearly 83,000 hours
at 97 medical facilities in the U.S. by providing a variety of
assistance to veterans. Additionally, the Ladies Auxiliary of
MOPH
donated another 18,000 hours to the Voluntary Service (VAVS) program in
that same year.
VA volunteers can go to work in hospital wards, at nursing homes, some
pharmacies and in outreach centers. Some volunteers drive patients
to and from medical centers, while others participate in recreational
activities. Volunteers look forward to improving the overall
quality of life of the other veterans. For more information and
details on the MOPH VAVS program or to volunteer for other areas, visit
